RE: ''Dealer Hanky Panky''

I don't think we have all the details of the deal. I am sure there are some contingencies that the title be released first... maybe a upside down deal with the payoff, leaving the dealer at risk... if you don't like the deal stop it now before it is completed...

RE: cleaning black tank on permanant site

when you were traveling it was the movement not the GEO method that made it work... if you are on a permanent site with sewers, just use more water to start with, more water to flush, and dump more often, buy filling the tank with water... use your installed tank flusher turn it on while dumping, when the heavy solids stop running out close the valve and let the tank fill again making sure to not over fill... and dump the second time... after dumping the second time, close the valve letting the water run to cover the bottom of the tank... done... use the wand to rinse the inner bowl area... above the tank and below the blade... forget the lights they are worthless... or install outside the tank sensors...

RE: The Formaldehyde topic hits Congress!!!

I don't know what if anything will come from the political posturing. but I do believe the RV industry is far to under regulated as far as quality and safety issues are concerned... more than just formaldehyde need to be addressed to make a difference...

RE: State Park Camping Fees

Les are you saying you are not happy with the fees...:B I do hear ya... I didn't know you retired... congratulations Les... the senior thing would be funny if it wasn't so ridiculous... I think the fees have increased dramatically in most states... a few years back they were talking about parks falling into disrepair and even closing some due to budget cutting and increasing cost... I was happy they choose raising fees instead of closing sites or parks... the cost in many SP's did go up a lot faster than private parks but that was because the private parks were higher already... they are at a point now where private CG' and state CG's are completively priced in some areas... and you will soon see a spike in private fees or the cutting of amenities in them also... it has already begin... most of the state parks I have been to were very nice clean and much bigger sites than in the private parks... private parks offer amenities SP dwellers generally are not looking for... the gas price at the pump hurts, but no where as much as it far reaching effects it has in other areas of our life's... it is the piling on of cost due to energy prices that are going to make us choose, not where to camp, but if we are going to camp... most CG will need the money to stay afloat, and many campers will not be able or willing to pay it... CG's will have to choose if a higher price for 2/3 occupancy is worth more that a full park at a lower price... I am afraid most would choose the fewer campers at the higher price because fewer campers = less maintenance as well and a higher margin per site... and the snowball effect begins... it's sad but fewer and fewer of us, myself included will be priced out of a true love of mine, camping as we know it... I sure didn't foresee everything that is happening, but it is no surprise either... we have been heading here for a long time now, and couldn't see the forest for the trees, so to speak... it is a big part of my reasoning for retiring at 49 for 10 or more years then returning to work if need be... the other big part was while I was able to do things health wise, I might not be able to do later in life... as fast as prices are rising I will be approaching that crossroad sooner than I want, but at least I got 13 years of retirement out of it so far... another big concern is what kind of world I/we leave for our kids and grandchildren... I am not proud of what that looks like right now...

RE: Cold showers

it is designed that way to keep from scalding you when turning it back on... although I had one the did just that. trust me cold is better... I would have thought that since it doesn't shut off completely, that the mixing of the water would have prevented that...

RE: this didnt happen to me though ?????

Hoses????? Who needs hoses.............when it is as hot as it was yesterday while emptying our blue tank. We said the heck with it and let it fly without the hose.........after all we have the stomachs for doing it that way now. Nearly everyone we know lets the poo fly.........of course it is hillarious when someone who doesn't know that we are seasonals at the CG, is there in line at the dump watching this scene. Imagine........pull up to the dump in your rig and there we are, the regulars with the blue tank hitched to the golf cart, unhitching and letting it all out sans the hose.......rinsing it all down the drain......... I know that sounds gross to some but it's a lot faster than the whole connect the hose, lift the tank, drain, rinse, repeat,.................... sorry it not only sounds gross but is gross... many CG's would ask you to leave if the saw you letting it fly... I applaud them for that... I doubt it is any or much faster doing that way either... if you ask me it's a excuse for being _____....

RE: Adding a board under tire

Have someone with a larger receiver hookup and move the trailer for you. For the five minutes its going to take, most folks would be happy to help I think. Jacking up under the axle tube is not a good idea, as you can damage it very easily. Under a spring shackle or plate is not the proper way to lift the trailer. If you end up using a jack, do it under the frame of the trailer. If you ever have a warranty issue with an axle, most manufacturers can tell if its been jacked up and will void the warranty. Bill I or the others do not advocate lifting the trailer by the axle... Jacking the trailer up and lifting one wheel are not even remotely close to the same thing... I have seen trailer wheels at the dealers and the Mfg's raised with floor jacks on the spring mounts... if the axles are that weak you couldn't pull the trailer without damaging them...

RE: private membership camping

I know you didnt specifically ask about Thousand Trails...but.. I know a couple folks who use TT Hershey, PA as their main location and are starting to have issues with the location. They dont know if its just this location or TT all around...but TT seems to be pushing more heavily for the Seasonal sites making it more and more difficult for the weekender to find a decent site at the CG. that's the market today... and the reason to make sure you understand the whole contract... if the contract says space available you need that defined as part of the contract and the right to cancel... you may need to add addendums before you buy to protect yourself and your rights as a member... these contracts may be for camping, but are business deals and need to be treated that way...

RE: Lost keys for Jayco Travel Trailer

Yes we've already bought the storage key so we have that.. just not sure i can get into the storage area but maybe it's worth a try. We don't have outside storage on the dinette.. so we can't get in through there at all. I might head out there to have a look. However, the trip i have to take out there is probably going to cost me more in gas than the locksmith being that he's in town ... we are almost 375 km's away from it.. so 750kms round trip on gas is costly.. Oh how i have learned :-) we have all learned things this way... you haven't cornered the market on things like that...:) hope you get everything taken care of one way or the other... some day it will be a campfire story for you to tell and just a memory from the past... enjoy, much worse things could have happened...

RE: this didnt happen to me though ?????

Hello all, I......,I mean this guy, this weekend while dumping shortened his hose by twisting it a bit and the hose turned itself off of the valve while dumping the black tank of course, what a mess, caught it pretty quickly though and closed the valve !!!!! I .....I mean this guy cleaned everything up real well, but learned a very valuble lesson. Thank GOD nobody was waiting behind me, I mean him, to witness this disaster. they have a name for people like you.... I mean not you, this guy!!!:B:B:B

RE: INcreasing mileage with a cap

weight matters weather you are driving a ford pinto or a f650... it will only be more noticeable in the pinto... while changing air flow may help some of the time it will hurt others, unless you only use the TV when the effects are positive you will most likely have no gain... most people have no idea what their real fuel mileage is and overstate (or understate it) it when talking about it... knowing requires careful documentation over many miles and gallons of fuel... only checking at certain times is no indication of real fuel mileage, but makes some feel better (or maybe worse) about it... checking on a two way trip discounts to many variables to be reliable... there is a lot of the PLACEBO effect in play with this topic... BTY my V10 got 8.1 going south and 8.4 going north this winter... just the opposite of what I expected... and a whopping 9.2 in Florida... interstate driving at 65 MPH I never made it quite to 15 MPG without the brick in tow...

RE: broken key

if its broke off in the lock you should be able to open it with your pocket knife or thin blade screw driver... remove the lock from the door, and with just a little trouble you should be able to remove the broken piece... buy a new lock that comes with the keys, problem solved and you have a spare lock of one breaks...

RE: Lost keys for Jayco Travel Trailer

I fail to see the problem, it is so easy to push the bed open, or if you have the dinette push the seat off... what ever is on the bed if anything will roll or slide to the headboard or be heavy enough the platform won't stay open by itself in that case a shot piece of wood to hold it open would do the trick... if you don't have a key to the storage, borrow one or stop at any RV store and buy one they are all the same key for years and years... calling a locksmith is the last thing I would do, and the most expensive for you... it would be much cheaper to break the glass in the door and just open it... new glass and it's replacement is cheap and easy... as a last resort get any kid hanging on the street corner in town... for ten bucks they will have it open before you can get the ten bucks out of your wallet... if you are careful most could be open with a pry bar with no damage, I have seen it done many times... these things are about as secure as your credit card in the hands of a pick pocket... problem, what problem...
